What Is An Index Page?

The language in sites and servers are different from the regular vocabulary. The Index Page stands for the front page of the website in a web hosting or a server. It’s just like a home button in any browser like Chrome and Mozilla. The web server directory index contains all the important files of the website that requires to load the entire page in the browser.

You can access and view the Index Page from “public_html” in the site control panel. Sites that do not contain any site files have one Index file that explains the situation. The users can edit it to display a message and start building the site.

Index Pages have two formats, and they are,

  1. index.html
  2. index.php

You can access the control panel, and edit the home page of the site using the .htaccess file. Add the following code to the .htaccess root file.

CODE: DirectoryIndex required_file_name ‘required_file_name’

If there is an existing file available, then you can edit it, and make sure to separate them with space symbols.
